Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Chargers for Ford: B-.

Somebody in pick 253 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Jaylan Ford, the No. 215 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

Every board in the league had Milton III lower, and that gap is the story. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze at the 12th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick37 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
They paid up for Xavier Worthy at slot 37 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69 Rnd3 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
A conviction pick on Sedrick Van Pran at pick 76 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick105 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
The board had Kris Abrams-Draine higher than No. 105, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick110 Rnd4 Javon Foster
A real head-scratcher, Javon Foster in the 110th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139 Rnd5 Christian Jones
By-the-book stuff, Christian Jones at Round 5, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick140 Rnd5 Cam Hart
The board fumbled Cam Hart all the way to pick No. 140, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick181 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick207 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
They took Nathaniel Watson at par in pick 207, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick225 Rnd7 Kendall Milton
A wild overpay on Kendall Milton in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
They barely believed it either: Jaylan Ford still on the board at the 253rd overall pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
