Draft Grade — Chargers

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Chargers and Washington: B-. There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Chargers never got to the one that mattered most.
On value alone, Washington makes the weekend a net positive. The cost of the Lucas reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Trevor Goosby
In slot 22 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
The board fumbled A'Mauri Washington all the way to Round 2, Pick 23, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
They paid sticker price for Kade Pieper in pick 86, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick123
Rnd4
Xavier Lucas
They paid up for Xavier Lucas at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick202
Rnd6
T.J. Moore
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T.J. Moore. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
