There is a lot to like until you notice wide receiver is still a hole. The Chargers never got to the one that mattered most.

On value alone, Washington makes the weekend a net positive. Reaching for Evans left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55 Rnd2 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington at the 55th overall pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick86 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kade Pieper. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123 Rnd4 Justin Evans
Justin Evans at pick No. 123 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick202 Rnd6 Christian Gray
Christian Gray at No. 202 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
