FutureA+
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B+ to prove it. Priorities are a choice, and the Bears made a strange one, taking Rod Moore at defensive back in the 70th pick with interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots crying out for the pick instead. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mitchell.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 1 they get a true top target at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick12
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
Graham Barton
Graham Barton at the 48th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A tidy little value on Sedrick Van Pran in pick 69, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70
Rnd3
Rod Moore
A want over a need in slot 70: Rod Moore adds a defensive back while interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick105
Rnd4
Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell at pick No. 105 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
They talked themselves into Donovan Jackson at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick132
Rnd4
Connor Colby
Connor Colby in No. 132 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick183
Rnd6
Jonathon Brooks
They went early on Jonathon Brooks in the 183rd pick, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick226
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe at the 226th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
