Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureC+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B.

The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Muhammad III left real value on the table behind him.

With interior defensive lineman and linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on defensive back is the choice that costs them. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ward.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 3rd pick they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick11 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 11 on Kool-Aid McKinstry with interior defensive lineman and linebacker unsolved.
Pick21 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kalen King
Kalen King at the 38th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
By-the-book stuff, Sedrick Van Pran at slot 68 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
They paid sticker price for TreVeyon Henderson in No. 85, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick104 Rnd4 Max Melton
Of all the spots to shop, they chose defensive back. Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 4 leaves interior defensive lineman and linebacker for later.
Pick141 Rnd5 Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III at pick No. 141 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick162 Rnd5 Cameron Ward
They let Cameron Ward come to them and pounced at slot 162. A need, and now a little less of one.
