Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

The Texans looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Tyler Baron at the 144th overall pick regardless, 45 picks early. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at the 24th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tacario Davis
Nice patience on Tacario Davis, who had no business lasting to No. 41. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick56 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
No edge and no loss on Tate Ratledge in pick 56; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick63 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
They reached into another round for T.J. Sanders, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick88 Rnd3 Samuel Brown
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Samuel Brown. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick95 Rnd3 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at slot 95 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick120 Rnd4 Wyatt Milum
A reasonable price with a little left over, Wyatt Milum in pick No. 120. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron at Round 5, Pick 16 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels at pick 155 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
No drama and no debate, Jack Kiser went about where he belonged in slot 216. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
