WaupCLE DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns

Draft Grade — Browns

FutureA+
The Browns cashed the board's mistake on Carter: A. When a board-topper like Barrett Carter slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not. They executed a plan and it shows in the A.
They will need Walley to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Adding Tyler Smith by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jalen Milroe
They went early on Jalen Milroe in No. 34, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at slot 44 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick67
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kaleb Johnson in pick 76, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick102
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Taking Malachi Moore in pick No. 102 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103
Rnd4
Savion Williams
By-the-book stuff, Savion Williams at the 103rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
Value said wait; Jaeden Roberts in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
A linebacker of that caliber at the 163rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick177
Rnd6
Ty Hamilton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty Hamilton in No. 177, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick190
Rnd6
Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway in pick No. 190 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick198
Rnd6
Jalen Travis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalen Travis. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick214
Rnd6
Kyle Monangai
Somehow Kyle Monangai was still sitting there in the 214th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick215
Rnd6
Justin Walley
A wild overpay on Justin Walley in Round 6, Pick 40, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick256
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
A quiet steal in slot 256: Luke Lachey for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
