cwm2 DRAFTING FOR THEBills

Draft Grade — Bills
Overall

Best value of the weekend goes to the Bills for Brown: B-. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Logan Brown got past him. The Bills do not have to explain a thing at slot 169.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. If Baron pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In slot 30 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at pick No. 56 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62
Rnd2
Darien Porter
They jumped the gun on Darien Porter, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jamaree Caldwell
Value said wait; Jamaree Caldwell in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick132
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
A wild overpay on Tyler Baron in the 132nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick169
Rnd5
Logan Brown
You do not let an offensive lineman like Logan Brown reach the 169th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick170
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid a round early for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 170, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at Round 5, Pick 35 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick177
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in No. 177 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick206
Rnd6
Luke Elzinga
They took Luke Elzinga at par in the 206th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
