FutureA+
The phones sank the Colts this weekend: D+. The Colts lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Mahogany lower, and that gap is the story.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wallace. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In No. 1 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
They did well to land Brock Bowers in the 9th pick, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick15
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In pick 15 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa in the 46th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick82
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A reach on Christian Mahogany in pick No. 82; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick118
Rnd4
Spencer Rattler
No drama and no debate, Spencer Rattler went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 18. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150
Rnd5
Beau Brade
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Beau Brade at the Round 5 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick193
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
A tidy bit of business in slot 193, where Caedan Wallace graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick232
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Frank Gore Jr. at the 232nd pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
