Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Grant: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Charles Grant got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at the 128th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In pick No. 29 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick61
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
By-the-book stuff, Azareye'h Thomas at slot 61 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128
Rnd4
Charles Grant
They robbed the room for Charles Grant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick205
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
The board fumbled Jack Kiser all the way to Round 6, Pick 29, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick245
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
They will replay Robert Longerbeam at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
