FutureA-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a A-, for the Bears. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Bears' quarterback, full stop.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Getting Rice where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick17
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In the 17th overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A reach for Zach Frazier in pick 48; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at the 75th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick114
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 14: Brenden Rice for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick122
Rnd4
Josh Newton
They paid sticker price for Josh Newton in pick No. 122, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
