Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-.

The 49ers spent real capital to be 40 picks early on Kurtis Rourke, and the board is going to hold them to it. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with running back and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Pearce Jr.. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Benjamin Morrison
In slot 20 they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51 Rnd2 James Pearce Jr.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 19: James Pearce Jr. for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84 Rnd3 Josh Simmons
Josh Simmons in No. 84 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick101 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
A reach for Tyler Warren in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick120 Rnd4 Mansoor Delane
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 120th overall pick on Mansoor Delane with running back and interior defensive lineman unsolved.
Pick138 Rnd4 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III is a better player than pick No. 138 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194 Rnd6 Nick Martin
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Nick Martin graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Makari Paige
The board had Makari Paige higher than slot 224, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jimmy Horn Jr.
Jimmy Horn Jr. at No. 245 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A real head-scratcher, Ar'maj Reed-Adams in the 247th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick254 Rnd7 Kurtis Rourke
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kurtis Rourke. The roster fit checks out.
