Draft Grade — Bears

Good, not great, for the Bears: B-. The Bears did not so much draft Desmond Watson as overpay for him, 82 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick No. 10 they get a centerpiece for the ground game. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at the 39th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in the 41st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72
Rnd3
Deone Walker
A reach for Deone Walker in No. 72; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148
Rnd5
Desmond Watson
They reached into another round for Desmond Watson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick233
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Carson Vinson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
