Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: D+.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They are betting Haynesworth proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 9th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick58 Rnd2 Brandon Dorlus
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Dorlus. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75 Rnd3 D.J. James
A quiet steal in the 75th pick: D.J. James for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick110 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
The board had Blake Fisher higher than slot 110, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick122 Rnd4 Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith in pick 122 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146 Rnd5 Sincere Haynesworth
Sincere Haynesworth at No. 146 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
