Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

ValueA-

TradesA+
FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a A. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Trajan Jeffcoat in the Round 6 slot. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Abrams-Draine. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick58
Rnd2
Kool-Aid McKinstry
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 58th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Troy Franklin
The board fumbled Troy Franklin all the way to pick 75, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick80
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in Round 3, Pick 16 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106
Rnd4
Xavier Worthy
They robbed the room for Xavier Worthy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick126
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Circle this one: Dominick Puni at No. 126 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick129
Rnd4
Beau Brade
Beau Brade at the 129th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick143
Rnd5
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick202
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 202nd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick214
Rnd6
Trajan Jeffcoat
A real head-scratcher, Trajan Jeffcoat in slot 214 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick245
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
They will replay Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 245 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
