Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Daniels is the Cowboys' new face under center. Grade: D-.

Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They will answer for taking edge rusher early while tight end went begging.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Frazier reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In slot 3 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Pick24 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In No. 24 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick28 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In the 28th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in pick No. 43 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick44 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at the 44th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick57 Rnd2 Adisa Isaac
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Adisa Isaac in pick 57 leaves tight end for later.
Pick60 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
A tidy little value on Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 28, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick77 Rnd3 Trey Benson
They went early on Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87 Rnd3 DeWayne Carter
They paid a round early for DeWayne Carter in pick 87, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick109 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 9 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick125 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
McKinnley Jackson at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick128 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in the 128th overall pick with a little surplus value in Johnny Wilson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett at pick No. 174 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220 Rnd6 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Fair-plus on Javontae Jean-Baptiste, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick246 Rnd7 Evan Williams
Evan Williams in the 246th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
