Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Raiders for Gould: B.

The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Anthony Gould, the No. 142 name on the board, sitting there at pick 223 like a gift left on the doorstep. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Every board in the league had Slovis lower, and that gap is the story. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick46 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey is a better player than the 46th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick77 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
By-the-book stuff, Kris Abrams-Draine at Round 3, Pick 13 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
A wild overpay on Roger Rosengarten in the 112th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117 Rnd4 Will Shipley
A slide stopped in slot 117, with Will Shipley worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick148 Rnd5 Beau Brade
Beau Brade slipping to pick 148 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick151 Rnd5 Christian Jones
They robbed the room for Christian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick168 Rnd5 Keith Randolph Jr.
Keith Randolph Jr. at No. 168 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick208 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
They jumped the gun on JD Bertrand, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick223 Rnd7 Anthony Gould
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Anthony Gould in the 223rd pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Kedon Slovis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kedon Slovis. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
