Larceny in the Round 6 slot lands the Lions a D+, Smith-Wade and all. Somebody took the Lions to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Legette lower, and that gap is the story. They banked enough surplus on Smith-Wade to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
They took Darius Robinson at par in the 34th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Value with a capital V on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 39, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick40
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
They paid a round early for Xavier Legette in No. 40, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick61
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa at Round 2, Pick 29 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick90
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at slot 90 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy in pick No. 100 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick201
Rnd6
Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade at Round 6, Pick 26 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick205
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick No. 205 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jalen Coker
Jalen Coker in pick 226 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick249
Rnd7
Bub Means
Taking Bub Means in the 249th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
