FutureB-
A franchise passer in Mendoza headlines a B- weekend for the Browns. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Browns' quarterback, full stop. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will need Adebawore to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Fields at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get their quarterback of the future, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick32
Rnd1
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in the 32nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick40
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
No edge and no loss on Olaivavega Ioane in pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Taaffe at No. 74 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick96
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
No drama and no debate, Omar Cooper Jr. went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Malachi Fields
A tidy bit of business in the 102nd pick, where Malachi Fields graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
They went early on Chase Bisontis in pick No. 116, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in slot 143 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick145
Rnd5
Sammy Omosigho
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sammy Omosigho. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick149
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick178
Rnd5
Adepoju Adebawore
They left a pile of value on the table to take Adepoju Adebawore this early at the 178th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick189
Rnd6
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor slid further than he should have, and the 189th overall pick is lovely value for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
Pick210
Rnd6
Isaiah Nwokobia
They took Isaiah Nwokobia at par in pick 210, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick243
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
By-the-book stuff, Tristan Leigh at slot 243 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
