Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Bears came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 23rd pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in the 46th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick80
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Nothing to complain about; Cooper Beebe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at No. 111 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick123
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
No drama and no debate, Ainias Smith went about where he belonged in slot 123. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
No edge and no loss on Tykee Smith in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick175
Rnd5
Walter Rouse
They did well to land Walter Rouse in pick No. 175, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
