Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureB+
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B+ to prove it.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The 49ers spent pick 252 on Shilo Sanders, a name the board had a full 33 spots lower.

That Grant pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In pick 14 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at Round 2, Pick 11 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 75 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Value with a capital V on Charles Grant in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A quiet steal in the 113th overall pick: Jared Wilson for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
Nothing to complain about; Rylie Mills went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick147 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Pat Bryant. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick151 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts at No. 151 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick160 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at slot 160 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227 Rnd7 Cam Horsley
A conviction pick on Cam Horsley at pick 227 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick249 Rnd7 Davin Vann
They reached into another round for Davin Vann, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick252 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
A real head-scratcher, Shilo Sanders in Round 7, Pick 36 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
