A franchise passer in Williams headlines a D- weekend for the Bears.

The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Getting Smith where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
