Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureC
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Browns to a D-.

The Browns did not so much draft Kevin Jennings as overpay for him, 55 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. However the rest shakes out, Harvey at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick23 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In the 23rd pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
A clean, defensible pick in slot 33 with a little surplus value in Derrick Harmon. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick54 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 54 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at No. 67 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Tai Felton
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 30, with Tai Felton worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
A tidy bit of business in No. 103, where Malachi Moore graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at slot 165 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick202 Rnd6 Kevin Jennings
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kevin Jennings well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick216 Rnd6 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at pick 216 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick217 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
The board fumbled Jason Marshall Jr. all the way to Round 6, Pick 39, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick257 Rnd7 Eric Gregory
A conviction pick on Eric Gregory at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
