Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall

FutureB
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Broncos to a D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Broncos shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Justin Fields gives the group a proven body among the projects. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 14 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chris Braswell in slot 53. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick78
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro at No. 78 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick85
Rnd3
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 85th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick114
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in the 114th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick118
Rnd4
J. Michael Sturdivant
They took J. Michael Sturdivant at par in pick 118, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
They paid a round early for Khyree Jackson in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick129
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 29 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drake Nugent. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
They went early on Jordan Travis in the 152nd pick, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick206
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl at pick 206 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick235
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
Nothing to complain about; Bru McCoy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242
Rnd7
Rasheen Ali
They paid sticker price for Rasheen Ali in No. 242, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick244
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 24 with a little surplus value in Walter Rouse. A need, and now a little less of one.
