Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Falcons won the night they stopped McCaffrey from sliding. Grade: B-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Luke McCaffrey tumbling to the Falcons in the Round 6 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick43 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at pick 43 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick74 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
Taking T.J. Tampa in slot 74 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick79 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 79, where Patrick Paul graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85 Rnd3 Austin Booker
A clean, defensible pick in the 85th overall pick with a little surplus value in Austin Booker. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109 Rnd4 Maason Smith
By-the-book stuff, Maason Smith at No. 109 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick143 Rnd5 Kalen King
They did well to land Kalen King in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick197 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in Round 6, Pick 22 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick207 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Joe Milton III in the 207th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
