1970's browns DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall

FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the Browns. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Browns reached some 128 spots for Kyle McCord, and value like that does not grow back.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mondon Jr.. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick 5 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Grey Zabel
A real head-scratcher, Grey Zabel in the 36th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
A straight-up fair deal on Denzel Burke at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Kyle McCord
A wild overpay on Kyle McCord in the 93rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Value with a capital V on Tez Johnson in Round 4, Pick 2, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick166
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at No. 166 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick180
Rnd6
Addison West
By-the-book stuff, Addison West at pick 180 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick187
Rnd6
Joey Slackman
Joey Slackman in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick205
Rnd6
Tyler Batty
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Batty in slot 205, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick214
Rnd6
Omari Thomas
Omari Thomas at pick No. 214 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215
Rnd7
Aidan Keanaaina
A big swing on Aidan Keanaaina at the 215th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
