FutureB
The Dolphins kept it disciplined and banked a B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Hayden Conner a full 41 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The Monangai steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kenneth Grant. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick48
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at pick No. 48 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick51
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
A slide stopped in pick 51, with Wyatt Milum worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
They took Zy Alexander at par in the 98th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick116
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
They did well to land Joshua Farmer in Round 4, Pick 14, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in the 135th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick150
Rnd5
Nick Nash
Nick Nash at the 150th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick155
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
They liked Chase Lundt enough to skip the value, taking him in the 155th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick224
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A wild overpay on Hayden Conner in pick No. 224, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick231
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai at pick 231 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick253
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
They paid up for Moliki Matavao at slot 253 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
