The Dolphins cashed the board's mistake on Kilgore: D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Dolphins, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Every board in the league had Lomu lower, and that gap is the story. They will answer for taking cornerback early while wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots went begging.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Kilgore falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
Caleb Downs in the 4th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick22
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In slot 22 they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Arvell Reese
Value with a capital V on Arvell Reese in the 35th pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick66
Rnd3
John Mateer
John Mateer in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
CJ Allen
Taking CJ Allen in Round 3, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84
Rnd3
Xavier Scott
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Scott. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick106
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis at the 106th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick137
Rnd4
Chris Johnson
A want over a need in the 137th pick: Chris Johnson adds a cornerback while wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore in No. 146 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick220
Rnd7
Quintrevion Wisner
The board fumbled Quintrevion Wisner all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
