FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B to prove it. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Quinton Cooley, 162 picks early at Round 7, Pick 36.
Carter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the 11th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick52
Rnd2
Trey Amos
No drama and no debate, Trey Amos went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
A conviction pick on Jordan Burch at the 75th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick82
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Fairchild in pick No. 82 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100
Rnd3
Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro at slot 100 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick113
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in pick 113 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors slid further than he should have, and pick No. 138 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Emery Jones Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
They paid up for Kyle Williams at Round 5, Pick 22 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in slot 227 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick249
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
No edge and no loss on Cody Lindenberg in No. 249; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252
Rnd7
Quinton Cooley
Quinton Cooley at the 252nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
