Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

ValueB

TradesA+
FutureA-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a A- to match. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ricky Pearsall got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 137.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jayden Daniels and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In No. 9 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34
Rnd2
Rome Odunze
Taking Rome Odunze in pick No. 34 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick36
Rnd2
Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner in pick 36 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at No. 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 3, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick68
Rnd3
T.J. Tampa
They will replay T.J. Tampa at the 68th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Maason Smith
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick122
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They paid sticker price for Javon Foster in slot 122, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick137
Rnd5
Ricky Pearsall
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 137th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
