If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bengals would have aced it. Nathaniel Watson at slot 254 is 26 spots clear of where he belonged. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Gillotte at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Adding Leighton Vander Esch by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
