Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureA+
The Patriots found their guy under center in Penix Jr.: B+.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The Carson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The Singer reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
Michael Penix Jr. in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick31 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey in the 35th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67 Rnd3 Graham Barton
Graham Barton at pick No. 67 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
The board fumbled Patrick Paul all the way to the 72nd pick, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick103 Rnd4 Caelen Carson
They will replay Caelen Carson at pick 103 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in slot 140 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick181 Rnd6 Miyan Williams
A premium they did not need to pay, Miyan Williams a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jason Henderson
A conviction pick on Jason Henderson at Round 7, Pick 4 that the board grades a round light. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick234 Rnd7 Dorian Singer
Dorian Singer at pick 234 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
