Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Steelers let Allar fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Drew Allar, the No. 135 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 159.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Harkey pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
No drama and no debate, A.J. Haulcy went about where he belonged in the 53rd pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keionte Scott in pick No. 76. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Jake Golday at the 85th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99
Rnd3
Kaytron Allen
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kaytron Allen. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick135
Rnd4
Skyler Gill-Howard
Fair-plus on Skyler Gill-Howard, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick159
Rnd5
Drew Allar
The board fumbled Drew Allar all the way to slot 159, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona at Round 6, Pick 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick214
Rnd6
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in pick 214 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick224
Rnd7
Ahmaad Moses
A straight-up fair deal on Ahmaad Moses at No. 224, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick237
Rnd7
Alex Harkey
A reach for Alex Harkey in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
