Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

FutureB
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Chiefs to a D-. The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Derrick Moore, 43 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane at the 17th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick44
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
A straight-up fair deal on Sonny Styles at pick 44, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick47
Rnd2
Romello Height
They paid a round early for Romello Height in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick54
Rnd2
Colton Hood
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 54 on Colton Hood with quarterback unsolved.
Pick66
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at pick No. 66 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ian Strong
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ian Strong. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick81
Rnd3
Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin at No. 81 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick108
Rnd4
Boubacar Traore
Value said wait; Boubacar Traore in slot 108 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Derrick Moore
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Derrick Moore. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance in the 121st pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
They went early on Jacob Rodriguez in Round 5, Pick 12, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Darius Taylor
A wild overpay on Darius Taylor in the 155th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick176
Rnd5
Lee Hunter
A big swing on Lee Hunter at pick No. 176, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick221
Rnd7
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at pick 221 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
