Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A passer of the future in Maye, and a C-, for the Patriots.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It lands right in the middle: a C-, no more, no less.

The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The cost of the Coleman reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Patriots indulged a want in Solomon while a need in edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.

So much rides on Drake Maye that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
No drama and no debate, Adonai Mitchell went about where he belonged in pick No. 34. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
They took Patrick Paul at par in the 68th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick102 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
A curious use of No. 102. Edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in the 136th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156 Rnd5 Brandon Coleman
Brandon Coleman in slot 156 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jarrian Jones at pick 158. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick179 Rnd6 Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan in Round 6, Pick 4 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick231 Rnd7 Elijah Jones
They will replay Elijah Jones at Round 7, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
