Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots left with their quarterback, and a B- to match.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The cost of the Bothroyd reach is exactly the players who went right after him. However the rest shakes out, Mustapha at that price is a win they earned. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In No. 7 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
Pick34 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu in the 34th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick68 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at Round 3, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick103 Rnd4 Will Shipley
They reached into another round for Will Shipley, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
Nothing to complain about; Jaheim Bell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick182 Rnd6 Malik Mustapha
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malik Mustapha in slot 182, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick224 Rnd7 Rondell Bothroyd
They talked themselves into Rondell Bothroyd at pick No. 224, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick232 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
