The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Brown: B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Logan Brown at pick No. 169 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Hemingway lower, and that gap is the story. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front. A real need, handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Fair-plus on Tre Harris, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Nice patience on Darien Porter, who had no business lasting to slot 87. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton is a better player than the 124th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick169
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Taking Logan Brown in pick 169 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick177
Rnd6
RJ Harvey
They let RJ Harvey come to them and pounced at pick No. 177. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick198
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Circle this one: Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 198th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick237
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
They paid a round early for Tonka Hemingway in No. 237, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
