austinrwilliams2005 DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Browns: B. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Browns never addressed tight end, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Reid pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
No edge and no loss on Abdul Carter in the 2nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick33
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Devin Neal
Devin Neal at pick No. 67 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at Round 3, Pick 30 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104
Rnd4
Tai Felton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tai Felton in the 104th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick179
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in No. 179 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick192
Rnd6
Karene Reid
Karene Reid at pick 192 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick200
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
They paid sticker price for Joshua Gray in slot 200, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jermari Harris
The board had cheaper options than Jermari Harris at the 216th overall pick, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
A reach on Donovan Smith in pick No. 255; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
