Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
Blue should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B+.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Jaydon Blue tumbling to the Cowboys in pick No. 211 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

Every board in the league had Thornton Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jahdae Barron in pick 17. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick49 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in slot 49, and they pounced on premier running back value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Andrew Mukuba. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick149 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 149th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Monheim at Round 5, Pick 33, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
The board had cheaper options than Vernon Broughton at pick No. 174, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204 Rnd6 Kyle Williams
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 204th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jaydon Blue
Steal is underselling it; Jaydon Blue at the 211th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick239 Rnd7 R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in Round 7, Pick 23 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
