Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Buccaneers found their guy under center in Mateer: B-.

Call it larceny. Francis Mauigoa sat on the board until pick No. 92, and the Buccaneers did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The Hasz pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. John Mateer gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 John Mateer
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a passer to set the clock by, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
They paid sticker price for Ja'Kobi Lane in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick92 Rnd3 Francis Mauigoa
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Francis Mauigoa in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick127 Rnd4 DJ McKinney
A reasonable price with a little left over, DJ McKinney in the 127th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168 Rnd5 CJ Daniels
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ Daniels. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick208 Rnd6 DJ Harvey
No edge and no loss on DJ Harvey in Round 6, Pick 27; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick243 Rnd7 Luke Hasz
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Luke Hasz well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
