austinrwilliams2005 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Sauls should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Ben Sauls tumbling to the Patriots in the 238th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Hassanein has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In slot 4 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in Round 2, Pick 6 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69
Rnd3
Josaiah Stewart
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Josaiah Stewart at the 69th overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals at pick No. 77 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish at the 106th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick144
Rnd5
Oluwafemi Oladejo
They did well to land Oluwafemi Oladejo in No. 144, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Jackson a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ahmed Hassanein
Ahmed Hassanein at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick238
Rnd7
Ben Sauls
Steal is underselling it; Ben Sauls at slot 238 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
