Grand theft in the 212th pick: the Raiders steal Singleton and grade out a B+. Thirty-one other rooms let Nicholas Singleton slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at Round 6, Pick 37. Highway robbery.
Truss has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 13 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Benjamin Morrison
Benjamin Morrison at the 39th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick44
Rnd2
Dylan Fairchild
A premium they did not need to pay, Dylan Fairchild a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69
Rnd3
Carson Beck
A real head-scratcher, Carson Beck in Round 3, Pick 5 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
Nothing to complain about; Jalen Royals went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
They will replay Andrew Mukuba at No. 106 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick146
Rnd5
Patrick Bryant
No edge and no loss on Patrick Bryant in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick148
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at pick No. 148 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick168
Rnd5
Michael Taaffe
Taking Michael Taaffe in pick No. 168 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick212
Rnd6
Nicholas Singleton
They robbed the room for Nicholas Singleton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick216
Rnd6
Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss at the 216th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217
Rnd7
Will Lee III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Will Lee III. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
They took Tonka Hemingway at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
