Johnson should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

The real work happened on the phones. The Patriots fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Martin left real value on the table behind him.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
