Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
A mixed bag for the 49ers, and a C+ to match.

The Jackson Slater pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 31 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting Williams where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

So much rides on Jack Sawyer that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick45 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A premium they did not need to pay, Alfred Collins a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick54 Rnd2 Omarr Norman-Lott
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Omarr Norman-Lott. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Charles Grant
The board had cheaper options than Charles Grant at No. 75, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
They jumped the gun on Cam Skattebo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at slot 113 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Slater in the 117th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Nohl Williams
Nice patience on Nohl Williams, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 36. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick147 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
A tidy bit of business in No. 147, where Malachi Moore graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick159 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant slid further than he should have, and the 160th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick227 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Teddye Buchanan well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick249 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ty Hamilton. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick252 Rnd7 Kevin Jennings
A wild overpay on Kevin Jennings in pick No. 252, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
