Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureC
Grand theft in pick No. 47: the Bears steal McCarthy and grade out a B.

The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The McCarthy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The Boyd pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the 9th pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick47 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
They robbed the room for J.J. McCarthy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75 Rnd3 Devontez Walker
A clean, defensible pick in the 75th overall pick with a little surplus value in Devontez Walker. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick134 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
The board had cheaper options than Mason McCormick at Round 4, Pick 34, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick163 Rnd5 Khristian Boyd
They liked Khristian Boyd enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 163. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
