Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
Ward is the plan now, and the Browns grade out a B-.

Nobody else had Dayon Hayes anywhere near the 216th overall pick. The Browns did, by 80 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.

However the rest shakes out, Cornelius at that price is a win they earned.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In pick 2 they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Nic Scourton
Nic Scourton at Round 2, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at the 67th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They reached a country mile for Antwaun Powell-Ryland at No. 94, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod in the 104th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick179 Rnd6 Ajani Cornelius
Nice patience on Ajani Cornelius, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick192 Rnd6 Corey Kiner
A reasonable price with a little left over, Corey Kiner in the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200 Rnd6 Ricky White III
They took Ricky White III at par in No. 200, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216 Rnd6 Dayon Hayes
Dayon Hayes at slot 216 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick254 Rnd7 Kevin Jennings
No edge and no loss on Kevin Jennings in Round 7, Pick 38; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
