Draft Grade — Colts

FutureB-
The Colts lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story. Nobody else had Trevin Wallace anywhere near pick No. 134. The Colts did, by 102 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
With running back unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick46
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at the 46th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick50
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in the 50th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick53
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in No. 53 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at pick 58 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Marshawn Kneeland
A real head-scratcher, Marshawn Kneeland in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick82
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
They paid up for Dominick Puni at Round 3, Pick 18 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Pick87
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A reach on Christian Mahogany in pick No. 87; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick118
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They liked Johnny Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 118. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick126
Rnd4
Andru Phillips
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Andru Phillips adds a cornerback and leaves running back untouched.
Pick127
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in slot 127. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick131
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They did well to land Cedric Gray in the 131st pick, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick134
Rnd4
Trevin Wallace
A wild overpay on Trevin Wallace in the 134th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jarrian Jones. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick164
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kitan Oladapo at No. 164 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick170
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at No. 170 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at slot 171 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick173
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
By-the-book stuff, Khristian Boyd at Round 5, Pick 37 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at the 193rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick232
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Edefuan Ulofoshio well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
