Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: C-. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It washes out to a C-, no better and no worse.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned. Spending an early pick on defensive back with cornerback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Caleb Williams and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 20th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick80
Rnd3
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at slot 80 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick105
Rnd4
Max Melton
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Max Melton at defensive back with cornerback open.
Pick106
Rnd4
Kiran Amegadjie
A tidy little value on Kiran Amegadjie in pick 106, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick132
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
No edge and no loss on MarShawn Lloyd in the 132nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Nelson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick143
Rnd5
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in No. 143 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick183
Rnd6
Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym in pick No. 183 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226
Rnd7
Mario Williams
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Mario Williams in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick255
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
The board fumbled Xavier Truss all the way to pick 255, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick256
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
They took Walter Rouse at par in the 256th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
