Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Gillotte: B.

When a board-topper like Ashton Gillotte slides to No. 137, you do not overthink it, and the Bears did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Nesbit pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back, cornerback and other spots. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

If Roberts pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In No. 22 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
A tidy little value on Landon Jackson in the 33rd pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Booker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick46 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant slipping to the 46th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick54 Rnd2 Mitchell Evans
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mitchell Evans in Round 2, Pick 22. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick73 Rnd3 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at slot 73 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick105 Rnd4 Tre Harris
Tre Harris at pick 105 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110 Rnd4 Bryson Nesbit
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 110 on Bryson Nesbit with running back, cornerback and other spots unsolved.
Pick137 Rnd5 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at pick 137 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169 Rnd6 Jason Henderson
Steal is underselling it; Jason Henderson at the 169th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189 Rnd6 T.J. Sanders
The board fumbled T.J. Sanders all the way to Round 6, Pick 29, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
