Draft Grade — Falcons

FutureA+
The Falcons let Polk fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Falcons watched Ja'Lynn Polk slide 36 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
They will need Rogers to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Adding Tariq Woolen by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In pick No. 16 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick43
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
They let Ladd McConkey come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the 74th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick109
Rnd4
Ja'Lynn Polk
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 109 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in Round 4, Pick 18 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
They paid up for Tykee Smith at slot 143 when waiting would have done the job. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick164
Rnd5
Justin Rogers
Justin Rogers in pick 164 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick179
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Milton III in the 179th overall pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick187
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
They barely believed it either: Kamal Hadden still on the board at the Round 6 slot. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick197
Rnd6
Trente Jones
Trente Jones in No. 197 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
